Hams: How about a TexasCHLForum net?

I was thinking about something Charles said in my 'Someone push me' thread and each day it just seems like a better and better idea. How about we try to plan/schedule a net for Forum members? I'm just throwing this out there to see if there are enough people interested in it.

I really see only one way to really make this work, and that would be by using echolink or something similar. If enough of us are General or Extra class we could try it on HF but in all honesty I think echolink would be the way to go.

BTW I finally have my HF rig setup and ready to try it out. I finalized it yesterday, but lightening drove me indoors before I could make a call to test it (The radio is installed in my Jeep and I had too many things inside the fiberglass topped jeep that could conduct a lightening strike to ground for me to safely remain in it). After I get off work this afternoon I think I will try to make a call to test it out, If anyone wants to be my first HF contact PM me and we can make the attempt. My HF setup is a Yaesu FT-891 w/ ATAS-120A antenna on what has to be the absolute worst vehicle to provide a ground plane.

Saltgrass would probably work. I think just about everyone in Texas is within range of a repeater.

Charles talked about doing exactly that.

Echo link has limitations as it is a first come, first serve (at least on our repeater.). Our All-star node should be up and running soon. Don't yet know how it works.
HF 75/80 meters in the evening covers all of Texas with reasonable reliability but would preclude Tech participation if it was in the SSB mode. Most net control stations tend to run 350 or more watts. I often join the Texas traffic net 3.873 and hear stations from San Antonio to Kansas and Ms and in between.
I'm interested in a chl/Ltc net if we can work out some details to accommodate most.

I mentioned as much in the OP, although I was referring to where he said as much in a different thread. My current antenna plans for a base station are on hold as I am now planning to buy a house and move (That decision was made at lunch) so for now I will be limited to my mobile rig.
