Can someone explain to me why nationalism is bad?
As I understand the definition, I am a nationalist because I believe in America first before any other country.
Certainly, there is the current trend to demonize "white nationalism", but I don't hear anything about any other racial nationalism being criticized as bad. I think the demonizing of white nationalism is being promoted by the anti "white privilege" crowd.
What say you'se guys?

It's just like racism refrain. It's the last gasp of the intellectually vapid and bankrupt. I think Shakespeare said "full of sound and fury signifying nothing". Its just a cudgel used by the left to bash the right in an attempt to gain power.
This from an American Indian who loves the United States... warts and all.
God, Country and Family!

This is exactly what LDB415 was talking about in the post about "High Capacity Magazines" and the importance of language.

There are people that extrapolate Nationalism to have negative connotations regarding people from other countries.

That makes no sense to me.
Let’s stretch the boundaries of make believe and imagine that I am a huge soccer fanatic. Let’s also imagine I’m at the Olympics at the soccer finale. The USA is playing Lower Slobovia. I’m at the game dressed in my best red, white, and blue USA regalia cheering on our team. The Lower Slobovians are likewise dressed in their country’s regalia.
I’m being a nationalist. They are being nationalists. Am I wrong to be exhibiting this behavior?

As a nationalist and a jingoist, I see no problem with it at all.

Let's try again. Trump ran on the premise of "America First". Many Liberals and DemonCrats interpreted Trump's America First platform as having negative feelings about people from other Countries. He was primarily referring to trade and he hit back on companies that moved jobs out of the US. He also threatened tariffs on imports that deemed to be in line with the practice of "dumping".
His Immigration platform, which is consistent with America First, enraged people from Mexico and other South American countries who believe they have "right" to come and squat in the US. Then these Liberals and DemonCrats started making references to Trump being "Nazi" and "White Supremacist" because Trump made preferences between Americans and people from other countries. Clearly, Trump is not a Nazi; he has immediate family members that are orthodox Jews. I've never actually heard him utter anything about white supremacy, but then again I don't have voices in my head speaking to me.

I see.
Control the conversation. Tell a lie often enough and it is believed as the truth.

Exactly, if Trump came out tomorrow, and wanted to help the global economy, make friends with terrorist regimes, and open our borders, the left would do a uturn so fast they would all get whiplash.

Because the radical globalists and the progressive socialists said its wrong.
That's it in a nutshell.
Progressives [sic] are, with rare if any exception, globalists. They dream of a world subject to their authority. Therefore, nationalism and tribalism are "bad" because they put the needs of one's own family, kith, countrymen, etc. ahead of a stranger halfway across the world. That is anathema to globalism. Except when they can use it to gain power.
Further, it's "wrong" to help (or favor) people based on your value system. Why? Because that violates a fundamental socialist principle: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."

I think I can be a nationalist but not a jingoist:
"Jingoists really dislike people from outside their own borders. Jingoism is an extreme form of patriotism that often calls for violence towards foreigners and foreign countries.
Patriotism — a love for one's country — can, in certain cases, turn nasty and go beyond wishing for the welfare of one's own homeland. That's when a patriot becomes a nationalist. From there, it's only a short step to becoming a jingoist, one who not only waves the flag of their country but believes that all other people are threats and should be treated as such. An obvious example of a jingoist was Adolf Hitler, who stirred up fear and anger towards outsiders that led to world war...and much worse."
