This is an interesting escalation between the police and Chicago's officials. But it follows the Detroit path. It doesn't matter who is elected, the next administration is as corrupt as the previous one.

I would withhold judgment on this one...sounds like some CYA'ing going on.

The sisters say: "...a nurse told her police identified him through mugshots and not fingerprints because of budget cuts." So taking the sister at her word, a nurse is opining on police procedure...

The hospital says the sisters did identify him as their brother...

Right after noting the Chicago PD saying they are taking the investigation seriously, the article comes up with "sources say" the police only take prints off of people who are arrested or dead (which sounds plausible to me. Given that this comes right after the reference to the CPD, I'm betting that the "sources" were CPD officers off the record.

The hospital is sweating two lawsuits right now, one from the sister and one from the dead guy's family. I doubt the hospital is really responsible for identification, but the CPD will be much harder to sue.

ETA: I'll also bet that before he was taken off life support there was a stack of paperwork for the sisters to sign, which I will also bet included identifying the man as a family member. I can't see the hospital lawyers letting the hospital pull the plug on people without all kinds of legal releases of responsibility.

The wife and I enjoy these home remodeling shows on HGTV. Our current favorite is Love it or List it.

The one thing that jumped out was the normal residential electrical wiring being in conduit. Wow, no Romex, not even flexible metallic cable, but full conduit in a 2 story detached house.

Chicago must be something. No thank you.

I come from a commercial Constrution back ground. I seldom did a residential project ( favor for friends ). Always used greenfield at the very least. I do no like Romex.
