S&W .380 EZ sometime won't drop hammer on first trigger pull

I was dry-firing my .380 EZ last evening and sometimes, after racking the slide, I would put it in the holster, making sure that the thumb safety was on the safe position. I would then draw it, deactivate the thumb safety and make sure the grip safety was depressed and when I pulled the trigger it wouldn't fire "fire." The trigger just moved straight back without releasing the hammer. I would then release the trigger and pull it again and it would "fire." This happened about half the time. Anybody know what makes this happen?

To all who replied, apologies. It your (small) ham-fisted obdt svt who was causing the problem. I have small hands and short, stubby fingers and when I would try to disengage the thumb safety, it was pulling my palm up off the grip safety. I tried to train myself not to do this, but I just couldn't get it to work properly consistently. So, the EZ got traded for another one without the thumb safety. I have longed trained myself to keep my finger out of the trigger guard until ready to shoot, and all my holsters cover the trigger guard, so I think I'll be OK.

I agree that you should be OK. Following the safety rules is more important than a manual safety.
None of the pistols I buy for my family members have external safeties. My S&W M&P M2.0 9mm 5inch was only available with an external safety at the time I bought it. I have since removed the external safety because it was causing issues - a blister on my firing hand thumb if I fired more than 300 rounds in a day.
