What’s perhaps most interesting about this decision is how both the majority and the dissent manage to improperly understand and apply the core lesson of the Tueller Drill in this “suicide by cop”-driven lawsuit against a California police department.

It's a shame that the so-called "21 Foot Rule" is so widely accepted. I used that term and distance for many years until I saw the video below. Dennis Tueller states that there's nothing hard and fast about 21 feet. In fact, he never referred to it as the 21 foot rule. It's more than a little scary that a federal court has accepted the "21 Foot Rule" as an accepted standard. It's even more scary that a major city police dept. has adopted that fiction as department policy.
