The newer branches now have the proper wording on the glass right at head level as you enter. Needless to say I will be sending a letter asking that if the bank is not willing to take 100% responsibility for my safety and give that to me in writing, that I will be finding a new place to keep our funds. It's pretty sad too because my wife has been with them for almost 25 years. I know what the response will probably be, but I will let them know that the word has now been spread as to their stand on my legal rights in this state and that they will probably be losing customers. Not like there is a shortage of banks in the Houston area or anything.

One of the interesting legal oddities I have questioned in my spare time is if I can be charged with trespassing on property I own. I mention this here because as I understand the law, you are a part owner of the credit union, equal to any other member. this is on of the ways they are different from banks, they are effectively a co-op situation.

No, I am not suggesting anyone ignore the signs or that you could win in court based on this argument. I am merely thinking of it as a legal oddity that could help someone in a last resort situation, or maybe bite someone in the wrong way at the wrong time. We have several little conflicts in the laws like that because of the separate codes we use for different things.

I've said it a million times........

If the gov't isn't going to protect you at a particular place, you should be allowed to carry a handgun there!!

That's a brilliant take on it, Steve!

Of course, that now leads us down the path of 30.06-posted Hewlett-Packard facilities, and employees/visitors who own HP stock.

Insert your favorite ESOP here. ;-)

Look again. The brand new branch that opened on FM 518 in League City has the OLD language posted and the letters are smaller than 1" to boot (even though this is a brand new building/location).

I'm a member of JSC. They had no signage at their Galveston branch, which is in an office building, the last time I was there, in May.

BTW, a stockholder does not "own" specific property of a corporation. For example, if you own HP stock, try walking into one of their facilities without advance notice. They will probably treat you as a criminal trespasser.

The only rights you have as a stockholder are to vote your shares or offer initiatives to be voted on (I'm not sure of the correct term for that).

I posted about the JSC thing years ago...Another 30.06 website has the info...Probably long gone, but it really doesn't matter...

I have an account there started by my Dad over 30 years ago...I keep it handy for certain things...

When they refurbished the branch just down the street from Ellington Field I noticed it turned around got in the truck and went through the drive-thru...

I used to like going in, and the tellers and the other folks in their I've known for years...

When they asked about why I didn't go in...Well, I figured I owed them an explanation...So I told them their new sign on the entryway keeps me from coming inside...I got puzzled looks at first...And even the DPS trooper who was pulling extra duty in the lobby went and looked at it...He had no idea that effected me...

The irony is that he and the other tellers finally figured it out, but were apologetic and were illuding to the fact that they wouldn't ban me from coming inside even with that posting...

I told them the posting is in accordance to the law, and I have no intentions of breaking the law...And appreciated their concerns...

Sad state of affairs...But Stephan did bring a really neat point about the whole issue though...Still trying to digest that one...
