I am normally a very decisive person but never when it comes to my toys. So help out a brother here

I seem to be having some issues w/ the slide stop/slide release on my 1911 RIA ( yes, ladies and gentlemen a RIA.. You are free to giggle and have a smirk but I have fallen in love w/ this 1911 ) So my good friend "the Marshall" gave me two Ed Brown slide stops to choose from. one regular and one extended. They both work good but I can only keep one and I only need one. Just for looks, I think I like the extended one but I understand there could be sngging/functional issues with them??

FWIW....I don't think an extended slide stop is worth the risk of hitting it on accident. But don't trust me....those 1911 things burn me when I pick them up like Holy Water on a vampire

I have an extended release on my 1911 and like it.

I generally release the slide (using the slide release) as I reacquire my grip during reloads. The extended version aids greatly in doing this. The short (original design) model can easily be "wiped" over and not drop the slide.

The extended (but not wide) version can aid in "one hand only" releases also... and I have never accidentally released the slide that I can remember.

I know someone is bound to admonish that the slide should ONLY be released by grasping it and pulling to the rear (military style). Nothing wrong with that, if thats what you like. Wasted motion though IMO.

I have seen some extended slide releases that I would not use (too large), but there are smaller ones available. It is hard to tell the dimensions of yours without a pic from overhead.

I had an extended release on one of my 1911's. After holding it down accidentally causing the slide to close after the last round I put the original one back on.

I say go with the short one - - - Fewer potiential problems.

Unless there is a compelling reason to use an extended one, why do so?

Releasing the slide with the release after reload should be done with the non-dominate hand.

Agreed. (as concerns a 1911)

Stick with the standard.

I have an extended slide stop on my carry piece, a Springfield Champion.
Since I'm left-handed, and with small hands to boot, the extension helps my trigger finger get purchase on the stop to release the slide on magazine changes (I use my left index finger, also my trigger finger).

I've not had any problems or issues with the extended slide stop, but I'd recommend you try out both kinds and choose the one that fits you and your shooting style best.

As a lefty too, this is the only reason I would change it up.
