I have an opportunity to buy a pre-owned FiveSeveN on the cheap. I am seing 50 rounds of ammo for this thing on the internet for 500 bucks almost. Is this something I would purchase as an investment as opposed to a shooting gun?
Can anyone fill me in on what I want to look for before purchasing this piece as far as wear/usage?

What!? You can get 50 rounds for $25 at AmmoMan.com. A thousand rounds is $399. I think you're looking at the wrong stuff.

Ah! I bet you saw some SS190. It's not generally available, and as an AP round it's almost certainly illegal to use with a Five-SeveN in Texas. The stuff that AmmoMan has are the SS195s, which aren't armor-piercing rounds.

That makes sense. I gotta get me some tracers, lol...

The five-seven is very fun to shoot, my buddy has one with a scope on it that we take to the rifle range. You can shoot pretty accurately at 200 yrds man with almost no recoil.

I just got one brand new from Bud's thru my website for $779 - They are a sponsor at our FN Forum, and they sell some things at slightly cheaper prices thru our site than they do on their own site.
The ammo U saw is 190 or 193 probably. The 195 and 197 ammo (stuff U can buy now) can be got for as low as $16 per box of 50, if U look around and hit a sale online. Bud's also has a decent sale at our site too - although he had some $1 less per box about a month ago (they sold out of their old shipment and had to buy more, and the price went up $1).
Most shops sell the gun from $850-$1000, depending on where ya buy it at.
Come check out the FN Forum if U are interested in one.

Any 01FFL selling SS190 is in violation of federal law unless they are selling to an approved agency.
Strangely enough, non FFL's may buy and sell ammo according to my non-lawyerly understanding of the federal law.
Now, again, my non lawyerly understanding of the STATE law says that all armor piercing ammo is illegal to posess. (Unless you're an approved agency of course) Getting caught is a 3rd degree felony; no more guns for you, forever.
So be careful with what Five seveN ammo you buy, especially from out of state or over the internet.

If U were near College Station, I'd let ya try out mine. I wanted to try before I bought mine, but had no luck. So, I took a chance, and I like mine.
I'm not quite as accurate with it as I am w// my P99 - but I still like it a lot. And, I've only been to the range w/ it 2x so far. I was better on my 2nd trip.
