Do light bearing holsters normally have this much of a gap around the trigger guard?
This can't be right....
I can still get my finger in there enough to pull the trigger once it's fully seated.

Well, it has to have an opening large enough for the light, which is probably considerably wider than the trigger guard.

this^^^ it's not possible to make a tight fitting trigger guard and allow a light to pass through during holstering. which is one reason I don't have one.

the other possible issue I see is the height at which the trigger guard is cut... can't determine from the pic angles how high it goes, but appears that it may be cut back more than you want.

I'll echo what Chaparral and flechero noted, the channel for a large light (you don't say what light or family of lights this is meant to fit) has to be big enough to fit the lens which consequently leaves a lot of room around the trigger. Here's an example with my VP9 with a Surefire X-300U mounted on it.


The Safariland holsters account for this by having a very high guard around the trigger; this protects the trigger but at the expense or a slightly longer/more involved draw. (Excuse the overexposure, was trying to highlight the extended guard around the trigger area).


For EDC I've found the Streamlight TLR-7a (or original TLR-7) to be a better fit as the light is much smaller and consequently you don't have to account for as much girth in the design of the holster.
