I haven't built an AR in quite some time but I have a new one I'll be outfitting with a 1-6x LPVO. Now I just need to settle on the mount.
Being sturdy and holding zero is number one with affordability coming in a close second.
Back when I built my last rifle, maybe 8-10 years ago, it was basically LaRue or nothing so that's what I went with and couldn't be happier with the LT-104 I got from them.
Now I'm seeing offerings from American Defense, Bobro, Midwest Industries and Warne pop up a lot for QD options.
In regards to non-QD I always seem to wind back up on the Aero Ultralight. There is also a UTG Accu-Sync that seems to be gaining a following and is only 35.00 on Amazon but I'm skeptical. I always thought they just made cheap junk that fit the look more than the function but maybe they've upped their game, I don't know.

So, I don't foresee myself needing to remove the optic and move to my irons in the heat of the moment or anything BUT I still want to plan for it so the QD option is attractive.

The LaRue LT-204 looks like a viable option but I can't seem to find a single independent review in print or on YouTube.

The Aero Ultralight looks good except for how the rigs join at the top. A) it looks weird, B) I've seen pics of that being a failure point for whatever various reason.

So, gentlemen, what are you trusting to embrace your glass and hold it true?

AR’s have Pic rails and should not need mounts, only rings of some sort. I’ve used Burris and Leupold two piece quick detach as well as DNZ one piece mounts on AR’s. On my bolt actions I’ve used the Vortex and Nightforce mounts. The Nightforce were a precise fit and it was obvious machining tolerances were closer but I haven’t noticed a difference in mounts/rings in the mid to high price range. I wouldn’t personally go cheap and get the low end from any manufacturer but that’s just me.

Do you say that because if both rings are mounted on the flat top they won't need lapping or what?
Whats the reasoning that rings would be a better option than a one piece?

Most AR’s have a picatinny rail on top for optics mounting. You can buy rings that mount directly to the pic rail. The DNZ will mount to that as will LaRue and a few dozen other manufacturers. I normally don’t lap my rings but it depends on how close they are. I think manufacturing tolerances on rings are much better than they used to be but it’s best to check alignment and lap if needed.

On my ARs (and SCAR), I use either BOBRO or American Defense Mfg (ADM) QD mounts. Of the two, the BOBROs are both the most solidly mounted, and the fastest to mount/dismount. On other rifles like bolt or lever actions that also have iron sights, I use Burris XTR 2-piece rings with QD levers, mounted on pic rails. My Remington 700 has precision steel TPS TSR rings on a steel TPS 20 MOA rail. It’s the only one of my rifles that doesn’t have iron sights, so the installation is intended to be semi-permanent.

In the end though, I am more concerned about return to zero after dismounting and remounting, than I am about the speed of dismounting/remounting. And in that regard, BOBRO is the reigning king, even though it is also the fastest to mount/dismount. They’re a little spendy, but well worth the price, IMHO.

I have had great experience with American Defense. Larue seems to still be pretty great, but I like the quantitative data from the article TAM referenced.

Can’t go wrong with UTG pro. That’s their American made line. Super solid and well priced.

I'm guessing that's the Accu-Sync line?
