I have previously owned a Cougar and liked the design. A few things I did not like about the pistol itself for carry use was it's obvious "tallness" (the gun is almost as tall as it is long). This makes for an awkward feeling that it is about to fall out of a IWB holster even though I am sure it wouldn't. I also was not crazy about the very long trigger pull when using it in SA. Even though it fires very smoothly...the long pull has a tendency to draw your aim with it as well. Nice piece for a collection, but there are better pistols for carry. If you like the "feel" of the Cougar, then let me reccomend a Sig2340. It's half composite, 40cal, has a decocker (which I like) and is very easy to carry with many holsters that will fit. I currently own one and used to carry it a couple of years back before I went the way of the Glock.

I've got some more info for you. If you Like the Berette 8040D Couger, you can save yourself some money, maybe. Berette is not making the Couger anymore. When they did it was almost $700. Berette bought a company by the name of Stoeger. The shipped all the Couger making machines to Turkey. Stoeger makes the Couger in Turkey, but it is called the Stoeger 8000 now.
Here is where you might be able to save a few$$. I saw a brand new Stoeger 8000 in 40 S4&W today at Champion Firearms in College Station TX for $358. A few weeks ago I saw a used Stoeger 8000 40 S&W in a pawn shop for $288. It didn't have a scratch on it, I ask the guy twice if it was new or used, he said used. If it had been a 9mm I might have grabbed it.
They are a little heavy and big for concealed carry, but it's doable. Both are fine guns.
My recomendations for 40 S&W CC in no particular order would be:
Glock 23
Springfield XD
Walther P99 or S&W's version
Taurus PT140
Just don't buy a 1911 45 acp! ( I just threw that in for bait to see who was reading the thread)
Regards, OE

I think the Cougars are fine carry guns but agree there's simply other options that are better out there. (I know some people's jaws just dropped after I said that) Still, if you're a Beretta fan, you'll find the 8000 or 8040 a fine pistol that will provide a lifetime of great service. Now that Stoegar is producing them again, maybe the aftermarket will pick up on producing more holsters and accessories. For now, parts and holsters are difficult but not impossible to find. Stoegar is producing the Cougar full size models, not the mini's.
I had a 8000D mini Cougar and loved it. It disappeared quite easy IWB. Beretta is coming out with the PX4 subcompact .....sometime in the near future. Walther, Armalite, Wilson and Kahr have some really nice offerings for carry guns. Don't overlook the M&P either. Wow, I need to go gun shopping bad!
If you're interested, I've got a killer package deal on a 8045 for $1k.
