I have heard this before, but still liked the article and how it breaks things down.

Good article! I've worked with the author before, he is an excellent instructor and firearms coach.

Good article!

Proper use of cover is what we teach right after the fundamentals of marksmanship. It is jawdropping how many instructors teach students to stand still out in the open where you are most vulnerable. It is partly due to the limitations on a lot of shooting ranges.

lol and then they demonstrate with some elementary stances in their pictures. At least they’re behind cover right?

"... after the fundamentals ..." That's the way I trained my soldiers. Master the fundamentals and then learn how to apply those fundamentals in tactical situations. Here in central Texas, I've been privileged to train with KR Training. Karl Rehn teaches Basic Pistol 1 and 2, covering the fundamentals of gun handling then Defensive Pistol Skills 1 in which students learn to draw from the holster. Defensive Pistol Skills 2 and 3 introduce and expand on moving to, and using, cover, shooting from awkward positions, including a shoot house, and more. https://krtraining.com/KRTraining/Class ... lstwo.html https://krtraining.com/KRTraining/Class ... three.html

I've also trained with John Correia, Active Self Protection, in his "Survive the Fight" which include shooting from cover and how to use a doorway.

There are other outfits in Austin offering training including use of cover, but I have not trained with them.
