Ammo Shortage Will Last Deep into 2021
“We currently have over a year’s worth of orders for ammunition in excess of $1 billion,” he said in his opening remarks. “This is unprecedented for our company. With demand far outstripping supply and inventory levels in the channel at all-time lows, we see strong demand continuing…”

“We have cleaned inventory in all retail and wholesale locations,” Metz said. “Despite us producing flat out for 6 months, there is no buildup of inventory at any of our customers. In fact, every one of them would like significantly more. Simply put, consumer demand continues to outpace our ability to supply.”

Got 3 20 rd boxes of M855 green tip at Academy today. 9.99 a box. There was a 3 box limit or I would have bought more. 50 cents a round is merely lousy pricing vs. the obscene pricing seen online. I can seem to find 7.62x39 bulk in large quantity and at more reasonable prices online. Maybe because it's imported. Makes me want to buy an AK variant while I still can. Right now I only have an SKS.

I’ll trade 100 rounds of 45acp for 100 rounds of 9mm in the frisco or Plano area only.

Pellets are in short supply for air gunners, too.

Part of the problem is manufacturing supplies are low to make the ammo due to covid-19.

So that’s how the CCP will help Biden/Harris disarm us.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There are shortages of all kinds of manufactured products in our business because of covid. It started out as a shortage of filters in May/June and within a month we could not get evaporator coils, many sizes of condensers, They are slowly getting supplies back up again. Much of the shortage involved aluminum and copper products.

I have an AK, and wouldn’t mind owning an SKS, but money is a problem. For whatever my advice is worth, you already have a reliable sample of a 7.62x39 rifle. If it were me, I’d spend that AK money on more ammo. That AK will be useless if 7.62x39 ammo stocks dry up ....like they already seem to be doing. Get the ammo now, while you can. Worry about the new rifle later. That’s my 2¢.

Same here. I live about 30 seconds from an indoor range, and sometimes run down there and practice. I need to practice with my 9mm, but I'm down to about 150 rounds of ball, and about 75 rounds of 124 gr. +P Gold Dot for defense. That's it. You can buy ammo around here, but it's over $1 a round after you do the math. So every time you pull the trigger, that's a dollar bill: you go bang, bang, bang, bang, and that's $1, $2, $3, $4...... jeez. I'm brushing up on my dry-firing practice.

Good point. I did kind of want a detachable magazine semi auto in 7.62 x 39, though. The SKS is a nice shooter though. 10 years ago they were available by the crate load from the C&R specialty distributors. I picked up a great condition Yugo SKS on my C&R license for about $200. It was fun getting one shipped direct from out of state without doing a 4473.

We need more, smaller ammo manufacturers. I fully expect the Harris administration to try to squelch production of ammo for civilian sale, via taxes, regulatory harassment, and financial harassment. ATK is the biggest ammunition manufacturer in the world, and they have a lot of military and government contracts, as well as supplying ammo for Federal, Speer, and CCI brands. Would not surprise me to see the feds use their government contracts to pressure ATK into cutting back, keeping ammo prices high(er), requiring retailers to background check for ammo, and all kinds of other nonsense.

I don't disagree but that won't help with the primer shortage... supply chains worldwide are disrupted so components are slowing production...

Ok, so we need more component manufacturers too.
