Re: Taxes on Firearms

There is already a federal excise tax on firearm sales, not to mention the NFA tax, plus many firearm sales are subject to state sales tax. I don’t know if the more broad-based excise tax has been challenged on constitutional grounds, but the NFA was held not to violate the Second Amendment (at leas...

Re: Favorite carry method?

If I am not wearing a suit, I usually carry appendix. Usually a 1911, sometimes a Shield.

If I am wearing a suit, which is usually a couple times a week, then either OWB or IWB strong side depending on the gun:depending on the environment, I either carry a the 1911 OWB or. the Shield IWB.

Re: Reasons to get a 1911 and which one?

I carry a full-size Government 1911 most of the time. When I need to carry something smaller or lighter for whatever reason, I carry a Shield 9mm, though I am strongly considering picking up a lightweight Commander or "CCO" 1911 like a Dan Wesson Valkyrie to fill that role. Here's why I carry a 1911...

AR Buffer Tube Defect

I installed an Aero Precision rifle buffer tube on a 6.5 Grendel build I did earlier this year. About 150 rounds without any malfunctions, but this week, I noticed the stock was a little loose. I tried to tighten, and then loosen, the screw holding the stock on the tube, but the screw just spun with...

Re: thoughts on the future of political parties

There have always been two political parties in the United States, because important elections have always been winner-take-all and decided by plurality vote. There can only ever be two relevant parties at a given time under that system. A third party will either grow large enough to challenge and s...

Re: M&P Shield 1st Round FTF Malfunction

I have probably 2000 rounds through Shields, never experienced what you describe. However, I never use the slide stop to release the slide, I always pull back on the slide to release it. I've thought about that. I've always used the slide stop method, but the pull method does give the slide a littl...

Re: M&P Shield 1st Round FTF Malfunction

BSHII, are you using the S&W magazines that came with the pistol? Have you modified the magazines? Yes, all S&W factory mags--one 7 round and one 8 round that came with the pistol, and two 8 rounds that I received from S&W through a mail-in promo. I have not modified or disassembled the magazines--...

M&P Shield 1st Round FTF Malfunction

I had a couple unusual malfunctions at the range yesterday, and I wondered if anyone else had experienced it or had any thoughts: I was shooting my M&P Shield 9mm (not 2.0). It has the Apex Duty trigger/spring kit, though I don't think that has anything to do with this malfunction. I'd say it has ab...

Re: Nobody but Corey Booker

Even leaving the Second Amendment aside, when does he imagine Congress authorized such an executive order? Or does he think it is just open season after Trump's bump stock ban? Congress doesn't issue/authorize executive orders. The president does. Yes, but he generally needs some Congressional auth...

Caliber Wars, Brazilian-Style

A 2013 article I stumbled across that reaffirms my religious views when it comes to the .45: https://www.insightcrime.org/news/brief/brazil-restrictions-high-caliber-guns-police/ Brazil will now allow cops and firefighters "to buy powerful .45 caliber guns for personal use, raising fears over how th...

Re: Goldilocks Gun Recommendations

I am shopping for a new carry pistol. My current carry guns are a Glock 21 and a Shield 9mm. I love the Glock 21, have owned it 17 years, shoot well with it, and am partial to .45, but it's massive and impractical to carry except in a belt holster under a jacket or openly in a paddle holster. The S...
