AR Pistol Finally Finished

After almost 6 months of research and buying parts, I finally built my AR Pistol. I had a little bit of light left on Friday after putting it together so it only got to shoot 10 rounds, which went off with no problems. Hopefully this weekend, I will get it cleaned and sighted in.

Only thing left to buy are back up sights and possibly a slightly larger backpack.

What happens if someone mistakenly fires it while the buffer is folded? Is the bolt retained somehow, or does it come flying out to embed in the shooter's face?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that is very nice and I like it a lot!

There is an extension that pushes into the end of the bolt carrier to take up the space of the hinge. When the buffer is folded, there is a tool steel latch that blocks the travel of the bolt. Supposedly all you have to do is close the buffer and cycle the bolt to extract the shell. I would rather not try and will keep it with the mag loaded but chamber empty just to be on the safe side.

When the buffer is closed, the latch is out of the way allowing the bolt to function like normal. You have to push the latch to get the extension in and out of the bolt and it has to be removed before you separate the upper from the lower.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm very happy with how this came out. Like a kid with a new bike.

I got the folding adapter from Brownells as it was the cheapest place I could find that had it in stock. Also, for those wondering, yes it is inside the backpack in the first post, not underneath. I need to make a foam insert to distribute the weight from the tip of the barrel, keep it from being loose inside, and protect the gun. I probably will need a bigger pack but it will fit in one that doesn't look "tactical".

In case anybody is wondering the overall length not counting the flash hider is right at 26". Folded is 20.25" long counting the flash hider and about 5" wide where the buffer overlaps the upper receiver. The hinge ads 1.5" to the buffer tube length.

If it takes a standard threaded buffer tube, yes. Also, if the hole on the back of the bolt carrier is the same as a normal AR it should accept the extension. I do not know what the recoil assembly and AR9 has.

From research it will not work on low mass carriers or JP Enterprises captured buffer.

I have read reviews of this product which were generally favorable, but MOST STRONGLY recommended against firing with the stock folded. The retainer thingie which locks the BCG extension in place is possibly not strong enough to stop the rearward travel of the BCG under recoil, and could be either bent, rendering it inoperable, or broken off. I like this adapter a lot, and while I think it is overpriced, I will probably pick one up some day. But I will NOT be trying to fire it when folded. I don't think it's a very good idea.

Edited to add: You can see in the video above that the tab that sticks up to retain the BCG extension is this a thin piece of steel. It is only designed to retain the BCG, and I would not only think it easily damaged under a firing impulse, but probably dangerous to do so. In fact, at minute 13:20, the ITS Tactical reviewer specifically mentions not to fire. And at 17:55 he actually tries it and gets away with it, but then at 19:15, he shows you what damage that did to the system. So........a singularly bad idea!

I want be getting one because they are overpriced (for me), but I do like them. It would make traveling with my AR pistol a lot easier.
