More big brother

Post by mojo84 »

Notice one of the participants is a private business, Bel Air Mall.
Mobile, Ala., officials have unveiled a new public safety initiative that will allow police access to more than 2,000 surveillance cameras.

AL.com reports that as of July 23, the Mobile Police Department had access to over 2,000 live security camera feeds from the Mobile County School System, the Alabama Department of Transportation, Bel Air Mall and its own downtown camera network.

I have mixed thoughts about camera surveillance.

For sure, they aren't much good at helping a crime victim "right now" unless, maybe, perhaps, possibly, one of the live feed cameras is being monitored and that persons alerts the help of the police in the immediate area, if the victim is very lucky...

Yes, crime "might" be somewhat reduced when the criminal knows he's on camera, but I doubt most low I.Q. criminals would stop to think about it before committing a crime.

Yes, there are high I.Q. criminals out there, but they are far and few between...and they generally aren't into small potatoes crime, they are instead on Wall Street.

Oldgringo,

You are absolutely correct!

I should've made Washington my first choice.
