Texas man shoots armadillo, gets hit in face by bullet ricochet
https://ca.news.yahoo.com/texas-man-sho ... 56503.html
DALLAS (Reuters) - An East Texas man was wounded after he fired a gun at an armadillo in his yard and the bullet ricocheted back to hit him in his face, the county sheriff said on Friday.
Apparently, a .38 Special is not sufficient armadillo medicine.

Just a guess, but he missed completely, hit a rock and that caused the ricochet. I've shot an armadillo or two with a .22 with no issues. I find it hard to believe a .38 wouldn't penetrate. Unless it was one of those mouse fart loads they use in cowboy action shooting.

It could be one of those new Kevlar-plated Armadillos.

I think they are gonna put those out as standard issue helmets for the military

Years ago, my father caught an armadillo between his travel trailer and his metal building (they were about 3 feet apart). He shot it with a 30-30 soft point.

The diller definitely died, but the lead spatter out the sides left little tiny holes in both the trailer and building.

Armadillos carry leprosy.

5% of the human population is susceptible.

Eat one, handle/clean one, be in their habitat and stir up dust they've spent time on, etc. and if you're one of the susceptible 5% you have a change of contracting leprosy.

My dermatologist's nurse told me this when I told her I did trail maintenance as a resident volunteer (about 15 years ago) at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.

Factoid: Armadillos have 4 babies and they're always all males or all females - never a mix.

Isn't this the key point? Shoot rounds that have a high enough velocity that the bullet won't ricochet off its initial impact.

A long time ago I read an article that mentioned this regarding the risks of target shooting with small bore, .22 LR.
