Nooooooo!!!! Mobile forum woes

Post by Aggie_engr »

First off, I haaaaate mobile websites!: Now one of my favorite websites appears to have gone mobile, which I understand some folks may like but I always seek out the "full desktop" version and I can't find it anywhere on here.

Also the view active topics doesn't work for me, I get an error of some sort. Any help guys/gals would be appreciated!

In the "Site Announcements, Questions & Suggestions" forum there is a thread relating to the upgrade. The error message you are seeing is likely something to do with search settings in the Admin Control Panel or missing files in the search folder, I am certain that Charles will fix it real soon. As far as mobile friendly sites, I too dislike them but due to google and others if you want to be found you have to be mobile friendly to rank high enough in search results. Overall I think this upgrade is not only a good move, but a necessary one. With that said I want to thank Charles and the administration of this website for a job well done and for all the hard work they do,.

I get an error with every "quick link" and have no idea if anyone else has posted any issues, as I cannot see the active topics without opening each sub-forum.

For now, this forum is useless to me and I miss it already!

Nope, not useless, you'll just have to think a little harder to use it just now... Give it time, phpBB is a great software for forums.

Charles and crew will get it all settled in, a conversion like this one it not easy, not matter who tells you it is.

All of the "Quick Links" options are working now. The board had to be indexed and that took many hours. It finished late last night.

When I read the forum on my laptop it is the same resolution as before the upgrade. When I use my desktop with a large monitor, it appears to be about 900 to 1,000 pixels wide and that's significantly smaller. My phone and tablet are much better.

Charles, that's the latest thinking in web development - that max-width should be 960px. I totally disagree, but I have no influence.

It looks better on my iPad now. I also get notifications in the menu bar (which I didn't get before).

Thanks Charles (and everyone else who helped update the forum) for your hard work!!!

Well I tried to submit this post over the weekend and kept getting errors so I thought it didn't go through. I found out today that it has and I also found the thread started about the forum migration issues/suggestions with the active topics link now working. My apologies for double posting the question from my OP in the other thread Charles, I promise I'm not trying to be be annoying! Thank you for your hard work in upgrading this forum and keeping it going!

I'm getting "Notifications" and PM's that don't make sense.
