Sad, indeed.
But, to quote one of the more learned ones on here: Amateurs skip safety-checks - pros don't.

"Authorities say Phonisay developed respiratory distress during surgery, at which time blood was found in the chest. A right-sided thoracotomy was performed and a significant amount of blood was removed through a chest tube. Doctors were unclear where this blood came from, as no other injuries were identified."
Reckon how that happened?

Re: Man Dies Attempting Appendix-Carry Reholster
I am so sad to read about this tragic accident. Wish I could have able to advise him before he started AIWB carry.
This instance just reminds all us that reholstering is an "administrate" task. There is NEVER any hurry to do so. One should be very diligent, deliberate, looking at the holster (the threat is over), make sure keeping the finger out as well as there is no foreign object inside the trigger guard.
Ironically, I EDC Glock 23 IWC but I purchased a Springfield XDS 3.3” 9mm (instead Glock 43) specifically when I want to AIWB carry because it has a “passive” grip safety. However, if one reholsters the gun with the firing grip, one just defeated the grip safety. When reholstering, I trained myself very deliberately to place the thumb on top of the beavertail to push the gun into the holster. In this way, I created a space between my hand and the grip safety, so during the reholstering process, the grip safety is active. I hope this info will help others.

His first mistake occurred well before he attempted to reholster- posing with a firearm is not something I'm ever likely to do. Posing with my loaded carry weapon is something I'll never do.

Things I'm thankful for:
1. The multiple physical safeties on my 1911
2. My 1911 is entirely too large to crotch carry
3. I hate selfies.

Very sad indeed. I personally don't see how carrying AIWB is comfortable regardless of your build. Especially in the sitting position. I went and looked at pictures of people doing it and I just can't see how you can sit without having the barrel stick you somewhere. I haven't tried it and don't plan on it. I have tried IWB on my hip and found it to be very uncomfortable. I guess it's a matter of what you're use to. I'm going to stay with OWB at 3 o'clock position. Better chance of not being hit if gun does fire while drawing or re-holstering.

At least the firearm was identified so we didn't have to listen to all the "Glock Leg" foolishness.

It was a striker fired pistol though. Maybe "Tupperware Leg'"is more appropriate.jmra wrote:At least the firearm was identified so we didn't have to listen to all the "Glock Leg" foolishness.

FYI the "Tupperware" meme refers to the old-style Glock storage cases, not the gun's frames themselves, so it's not even accurate for Glocks any more, as they haven't been sold with those cases for almost a decade.Right2Carry wrote:It was a striker fired pistol though. You're certainly entitled to your opinion as I am mine. "Tupperware" seems appropriate for any poly frame as plastic is plastic.CleverNickname wrote:FYI the "Tupperware" meme refers to the old-style Glock storage cases, not the gun's frames themselves, so it's not even accurate for Glocks any more, as they haven't been sold with those cases for almost a decade.Right2Carry wrote:It was a striker fired pistol though.
