Re: Cop Watch Video Recorder
I may DL it, just because i can see the utility of a video app that starts as soon as you click on the icon. The native iOS video feature is too slow to get started if you see something happening and you need to start recording Right Now.

Re: Cop Watch Video Recorder
Just because it's called CopWatch doesn't mean you couldn't use it for other stuff. For example, you could record your grandchildren playing in the backyard and upload it to your private youtube channel. Then share it with your family. You could record a meeting and upload it to the company youtube channel. You could record an interview with a beloved elderly family member and upload it to youtube. The possibilities are almost endless.

It's who developed the app and gets benefit from people downloading and using it. There are other options that do the same thing without benefiting the nut jobs and ACLU. To each his own though.

Re: Cop Watch Video Recorder
I have no problem with such apps or recording the police in general. I think all police interactions should be recorded. It's good to have a back up recording of events. They always seem to have forgotten to turn on their camera when it suits them.

Yeah, sorry but I'm just not seeing any evil intent here. I've been looking at some of their videos and I'm not reaching the same conclusions that you are.
Aside from that, I come from a state where there are several key examples of why you need thing like that documented, that involved manufacturing of evidence and such, so if any of those where me, I'd be happy to have my own incident well documented. I'm not a law breaker, have never even had a parking ticket. But all it takes is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time with someone you HOPE is a good person....

Hopefully, as acceptance of body cameras within LEO organizations grows, or is thrust upon those organizations, the need for apps like this will go away...
Re: Cop Watch Video Recorder
Unless the LEOs are posting it on the attention seeker's YouTube account for them, I don't think it's going to have an impact. This isn't about policing the police for a lot of that crowd - its about goading them into saying/doing something stupid and then getting a million views.cb1000rider wrote:Hopefully, as acceptance of body cameras within LEO organizations grows, or is thrust upon those organizations, the need for apps like this will go away...

Goading them or not.. And I don't agree with goading, research indicates that both the police and public tend to handle things differently when body cameras are involved. And that differently typically means fewer use of force incidents, lower community complaints, and one means of absolute protection against citizens that describe things in a manner that they didn't happen.

Re: Cop Watch Video Recorder
For those of you that want to have a recording of your interaction, why not get a body cam? It's already in place and hands free other than pushing a button to activate it. My son bought one to wear for his security job and it works great. It's Inexpensive, convenient and I promise, the data management and storage isn't near the problem folks that don't want to wear one tries to make us believe.
He's already documented a couple of encounters where it came in handy.

Re: Cop Watch Video Recorder
Maybe I wasn't clear. I have ZERO problems with cops and body cameras. Personally, I think every cop should wear one all day long - for their protection as well as civilians.cb1000rider wrote:Goading them or not.. I do have a hard time believing that the Cop Watch crew is going to play nice just because Officer Friendly is wearing a body cam.

None of those (that I'm aware of) are capable of uploading directly to YouTube, and none (that I'm aware of) are able to do so automatically if someone tries to tamper with or delete the video.

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that they uploaded to YouTube so people with screen names like @kopsuckcuztheyremean could entertain the masses with stupid human tricks. Since its to protect the video from tampering, I stand corrected and wholeheartedly support this product.

If you will look, you will see many of the body cameras can be set up to where they are what the manufacturers call "tamper proof" so someone can't easily grab and erase the contents. You also get ones that duplicate their contents onto a smartphone and then easily upload to a data backup or storage system. My phone automatically uploads videos and pictures to Carbonite. The idea in the first place is for them to be secure for evidence custody and integrity purposes.
Using the copwatch, copblock or aclu apps is not the only nor are they the best answers. Youtube is where the nutjobs like to put their videos so they can get attention. Here's a link for your reference. It's just one of many out there. http://www.vievu.com/vievu-products/hardware/

Re: Cop Watch Video Recorder
Vievu? Very interesting products. I started placing a Gopro-style camera in my windshield and recording my daily commute. Although I do not save the video, it is remarkable how many traffic violations you record in a given round trip commute. Of course care is warranted--you record any traffic violations you commit as well.
