Churches w/ Private Schools

Post by TrueFlog »

Can someone provide guidance on the rules for carrying at a church that has its own private school?

I attend Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. PBC is a large church that also runs a private school - Prestonwood Christian Academy. Since the church and school are on the same campus and share some of the same buildings, does that mean that the entire church is off-limits for carry on Sunday? Or is carry only prohibited in the specific buildings used by the school, but allowed in the other buildings (eg. the sanctuary)? If it’s the latter, how do I know which buildings (or parts of buildings) are OK and which are off-limits? Thanks.

This has been discussed before. Opinions vary. Some will tell you that the entire thing is off limits (other than the parking lot) - others will ask about being "accredited" - still others will say that it only applies to the portion of the church associated with the school.

To the best of my knowledge, there have been no known "test cases" in Texas on the issue. You'll get opinions here - I don't think you'll find a definitive answer.

You forgot to mention the "it only applies during school hours" opinion, and the "what about Sunday School?" follow-up question.

I would be surprised to hear that Jack Graham was opposed to concealed carry.
There are several Baptist churches in the area that have schools. IANAL, but,
unless you're in the actual part of the church used by the school, during school
hours, on school days, you should be good to carry. Sanctuary? Praise the Lord and
pass the ammunition.
