Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard was detained at IAH in Houston on August 26, for having a loaded handgun in his carry-on. He was allowed to give the gun to a friend, and catch a later flight.

He was not allowed a "pass" because of who he was. They had "no idea" he was "the" Dwight Howard.
I know someone who works for the airline who was caught in a similar situation. She did not get off that easy...

Sounds like it was handled as the new law allows. If he had a CHL and immediately left the secured area after being made aware of the offense, it is now a misdemeanor. It is no longer a felony, and no longer requires an arrest to be made.

I have mixed feelings. It was 8/29, so the new law hadn't taken effect.
If he was released because of who he was, I have a problem with it. If he was released because he has a CHL, and it was an honest mistake, that's a good thing. If it was loaded (news report says it was), and he doesn't have a CHL, was he just released because of his star status?
