Permanent resident

Post by jbirds1210 »

I have a co-worker that is not an American citizen. She is a permanent resident from Canada. I realize that Canadians with guns are dangerous  , but......what does she have to do in order to receive a CHL? Thanks for any help you are able to provide.
BTW, she has resided in Texas for five years. Legal residency was received one year ago.

The requirement is that she be a legal resident, doesn't have to be a US citizen. It sounds like She will be OK.

If she does not like the laws of her home country then she should become a Texas citizen. We welcome all who want to move to the free land from those that oppress.

I voted no, based on the fact that I can not carry when I am in Canada, and I am there several times a year.

However, the rights our Creator bestowed on us belong to us all, and we all have the right affirmed by the 2A.

Open season on those who negate these rights should be the rule of law.

When I am wrong I change. After reading & thinking about it I agree with anygun & KB. If I deny a law abiding freedom loving person the right to carry because of where they were born then I have done the same thing as the Republic of K. If she wants a Texas CHL & is a law abiding citizen then I will encourage her to get one & be glad she is on our side. KB, sorry for the former brain cramp.

If my Aunt can renounce ALL things Canadian...Then sure...Why not...

But it was easy for her...She married a Texan...

I know several Canadians that I would trust with a gun, or my life, or my wife.

For the record,
I was just joking about Canadians being able to carry a gun. I feel that if they meet the requirements, put a license in their wallet and a .357 under their jacket (or in their purse in this matter). She was sitting with me when I made the post....I just wanted to razz her a little! THanks for the replies.

The law says as long as your are a Texas resident, which, by law, means US citizen living in Texas for more than x months, any legal alien with L, H, E visa and Green Card, basically whoever pays resident tax. Student visa does not count here as students don't pay resident tax.

I started to buy guns when I was under L visa and now I have a Green Card and applying for CHL

What the heck is a resident tax?

Post by ScottDLS »

I've lived in Texas for 15 years and the only taxes I have paid are relevant to non-residents too. Property tax, sales tax...
