There is nothing new about bad referees in high school sports. Been happening for decades.

I don't understand your point. What's been happening for decades?

there is absolutely no proof that this ref said anything. The ref has denied it and according to one report has a lawyer to deal with the things that have been being said about him. I actually seriously doubt that whole aspect of the story for several reasons. It's going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear.

I meant that every football player I knew in high school and after has complained about the referees and sometimes accused them of cheating. However, they never physically assaulted the referees. There was no justification for this no matter what excuses they throw out.

The racism accusation is ridiculous. I highly doubt that an official at a high school event would be using racial slurs towards the players. Even IF he was being verbally abusive, taunting, and hurling racial slurs, the recourse for the players and the coaches is to file a complaint with the appropriate governing bodies.

This was an assault by undisciplined criminals which may have been encouraged by an undisciplined criminal who was a coach on their team. For the media to be giving credibility to the racism charge is par for the course. Can you imagine if the official had been black and the coach and players were white? They would have all been charged with hate crimes and this story would be leading every newscast for the next month.

Shockingly enough, ESPN is carrying the story with the racism angle...
