Anyone Else Here A Ronda Rousey Fan?

If you keep up with her fights she's tremendous, plus stunning.

I discovered her watching the movie "The Expendables" and thought she moved like a fighter. (she played a bouncer in a nightclub)

So, I researched and found that yes, she's the real deal.

I found one video of her where a man (much bigger than her) decided he'd like to fight her. She immediately slammed him down and then landed on him with her elbow and broke a bunch of ribs.
Very impressive. She then laughingly apologized for hurting him.

Anyone else a fan?

I am for sure a fan of hers. Of all the women in the sport she is above and beyond. I do think she could be a few of the men in the bantam weight division.

Extremely talented fighter, as she was raised into it - her mother was a big deal in the sport as well. She's far and away the best female fighter in UFC right now, and will probably retire undefeated.

That being said, I'm not a fan at all. She's got a horrible attitude when it comes to her opponents and she's pretty much the exact opposite of humble. While I don't blame her for cashing in, I'm getting tired of seeing her every time I watch TV.

Most fighters do not talk "kindly" of their opponent. I do agree she is on tv a lot. But that goes in cycles with the UFC. eventually they will find another to highlight...

A lot of that attitude is probably more show than anything... The first Rowdy Ronda Rousey fight I saw was back when Rousey and Meisha Tate fought for Strikeforce... The fight where Rousey broke Tate's arm with the arm bar. I've been a fan from then on. :)

She has a great arm bar. She performs it with ease. Her opponents seem to be able to do nothing to stop it. She is in a league of her own. Her skill and domination in the bantamweight division reminds me of how jon jones was doing in the light heavyweight division.

Prior to R.R., I was a big fan of Lucia Rijke.

I was very disappointed she never fought got to fight Christy Martin, who I was also a fan of, but Christy wanted no part of Lucia.

BTW, Lucia is now Ronda's striking coach.

Olympic judo career
Rousey began Judo with her mother at the age of 11. At 17, Rousey qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, becoming the youngest judoka in the entire Games. Also in 2004, Rousey won a gold medal at the World Junior Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary.[citation needed]

In April 2006, she became the first female U.S. judoka in nearly 10 years to win an A-Level tournament as she went 5-0 to claim gold at the Birmingham World Cup in Great Britain. Later that year, the 19-year-old won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships, becoming the first U.S. athlete ever to win two Junior World medals.[citation needed]

In February 2007, Rousey moved up to 70 kg where she ranked as one of the top three women in the world. She won the silver medal at the 2007 World Judo Championships in the middleweight division and the gold medal at the 2007 Pan American Games.[citation needed]

In August 2008, Rousey competed at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. She lost her quarterfinal to the Dutch ex-world champion Edith Bosch but qualified for a Bronze medal match through the repechage bracket. Rousey defeated Annett Boehm by Yuko to win a bronze medal (note: Judo offers two bronze medals per weight class). With the victory, Rousey became the first American to win an Olympic medal in women's judo since its inception as an Olympic sport in 1992.

Yes, 'almost' always, but not always, see Rocky Marciano...and I hope Rhonda retires undefeated too.

The fact that she's incredibly talented, can take a punch or kick, and gorgeous sets me old ticker ablaze...

I am boxing fan as I come from a family of pro and amateur boxers and did some fighting too.

Some folks are simply born gladiators and I find that immensely interesting.

If someone's going to beat her, its either going to be a Buster Douglas repeat or they'll have to catch her on a baaaaaaad day. Cyborg may have a shot, but other than that I just don't see anyone close right now.

She's very much into the movie star thing right now. I'd be shocked if she doesn't retire soon.

Rousey is a great fighter for sure, but I think she is like the Gracie's back in the infancy of the UFC. The Gracie's had brilliant Jiu-Jitsu and they dominated. As more fighters from wider backgrounds became involved in MMA, the sport evolved so that just being great at Jiu-Jitsu (or any other single discipline) is no longer enough. Today's sport, requires a more broadly developed fighter who can strike and has a solid ground game.

Rousey has textbook Judo. She reminds me a little of Fedor Emelianenko in that her Judo is near perfect, except that Fedor was a devastating striker. Rousey does Judo beautifully, but she is a bit of a one-trick pony. Much like the Gracie family (who I am also a very big fan of). I think that as the pool of female fighters broadens with more exposure to the sport, Rousey will have to step up her game, as odd as that sounds. Her pool of competition is very shallow compared to her male counterparts, but that is going to change.

As far as her attitude, I think that is a an act. She trains with Nick and Nate Diaz she is clearly taking some cues from their ring manners. They have a crappy attitude and she started emulating it a couple of years ago.

All that said, she is a great talent.

R.R. has some lack of discipline in her "strikes" what we boxing types think of as jabs, or hooks, crosses, or uppercuts or..., she often flails missing as much as connects. Lucia Rijke (her striking coach) will (I hope soon) get her to discipline her strikes and hit with greater power.

I hope like crazy Taypo is right about her retiring soon and spend more time as an actress.

I don't want to see her lovely mug turned into a punchy's face or brain.

Near the end of his boxing career Macho Camacho's speech was obviously that of someone with traumatic brain injury from years of getting hit in the ring. If you know what your hearing, it's easily identifiable. The speaker sounds rather like he's a bit tongue tied.

I don't want that be R.R.'s inheritance.
