That looks really nice TAM. I like that it has a lower sight plane than my 930 SPX does.

I don't understand the need for sights on a SD shotgun.

One word: accuracy.MONGOOSE wrote:I don't understand the need for sights on a SD shotgun.
The normal bead sight is intended for hunting game during daylight. In a HD situation there is a good chance it will be low-light and the sight plane / front bead won't be viable.
A ghost ring setup is a very fast sighting system. If you add tritium or fiber optics to the front sight, it becomes useful in very low light and works that much faster.
Remember, at in-home distances, you're not going to get much spread at all with the shotgun, so you''re shot must be accurate.

We don't really need sights on handguns either, but it sure makes hitting something easier and faster - but you do it your way and we'll do it ours.
For those interested, zeroing for slugs at 100 yards:

I'm not takin deer hunting....what does a HD situation have to do with 100 yds. At the range we are takin about in HD, you will be lucky to think about the sights

People who train with sights and shoot with sights will be thinking about sights if they need them. If finding them under stress is a problem for you, then you're absolutely correct removing them.MONGOOSE wrote:I'm not takin deer hunting....what does a HD situation have to do with 100 yds. Nobody in their right mind advocates removing the sights from a handgun or a rifle if they can't hit the target under stress. Why is a shotgun any different? Because that magical cone of death that shoots from the end of it?MONGOOSE wrote:I've seen practice go out the window under rstress. We will just have to agree to disagree.

Wanted to post on big dots as well. I didn't know they were in Fort Worth until TAM posted it. I had been contemplating getting a set for my pistol. Drove over there today, folks there were real friendly. Got to look at all the configurations on a pistol. Also got some direct advice on how to put them on my pistol as well. Figured I would mention it since TAM talked about going over there. If you are in the DFW area and were thinking about the sights go by there. It isn't an actual store it's just their office, but they are happy to have you in.

I use XS big dots on my pistols.....when have I ever advocated taking sights off handguns or rifles.....I specifically asked about shotguns.Taypo wrote:Nobody in their right mind advocates removing the sights from a handgun or a rifle if they can't hit the target under stress.
