Latest build

Post by DocV »

My latest build is a 45 CCO using a Caspian receiver and slide. The slide stop, firing pin stop, ejector and extractor are also Caspian parts. I am very impressed with their quality. The Barrel and bushing are from Ed Brown. The mainspring housing is a Smith and Alexander. Wilson Combat supplied the Guide plug and guide as-well-as the thumb safety. Grips are VZ Aztecs (Magwell - in case I ever go that route) and the sights are Novak and Dawson Precision. The grip safety is a Colt standard safety that I milled (think files and dremel) to fit the Cylinder and Slide rowel hammer. I hope you like it:

Darn fine pistol right there. Nothing like a custom .45

very nice.

I plan to build one as well on a Caspian frame, but it 9mm, possibly with a 38 Super barrel as well.

That's awesome! I wish I had the skills and patience to do something like that. Any pics of the build process?

Thanks every one.

Greenbeer, unfortunately, I only took completion photos of this one. I find the key is to go slowly and think a lot before whittling on a part. The process is pretty much, think, measure, think, remeasure , rethink, whittle as little as possible and repeat that process until done. That turns the build into outthinking the parts one part at a time ;)

This is actually only my second full build. It took me about 40 hours spread out over three long weekends.
I actually started building blackpowder kits about 30 years ago and build several rifles and handguns. Then I started fitting parts to off-the-shelf 1911s. That led me to the point where I decided to see if I could build one using commercially available parts.
Here is my first build:

It is a STI frame with Fusion Slide and EGW parts

This build took a looong time and, I do have build photos for it:
