In Texas, is their any obligation of someone selling ammo privately to ensure credentials (licence, date of birth) of a purchaser?
I haven't purchased ammo yet, and have a fair bit of .38 to sell, any wanted to be sure of the law first.
Thanks

Federal law places those restrictions only on federally licensed ammunition manufacturers and dealers. There are no such restrictions to a private seller.Schleprock wrote:I think with the exception of age being a restriction for rifles/shotgun ammunition(18) or handgun ammunition (21 I believe), you may purchase or sell without any issues. Texas has no laws on the subject at all, as far as I can tell.

Laws or no laws, I'm still not selling guns or ammo to the teenager down the street. You want what I have, bring cash and a drivers license that proves you are old enough to assume the legal responsibilities for what you are about to buy.

If you buy .22 ammo at Walmart (Not that I've seen it in recent history), they asked you if you are using it for a rifle or handgun. If you answer handgun, you must be 21; if rifle, then you must be 18.

That made me chuckle. I get it, but I don't get it. Unless a suspected 18 year old specifically talked about pistols in front of the sales clerk, is there a federal requirement to ask what the purpose is?Embalmo wrote:If you buy .22 ammo at Walmart (Not that I've seen it in recent history), they asked you if you are using it for a rifle or handgun. And I saw 22LR on the shelf, in front of the counter not behind, at an Academy yesterday! First time since Sandy Hook. (Sorry to digress)

Academy used to ask the rifle or pistol question, but I haven't been asked at any from Dallas to Buda to Pasadena to San Antonio to anywhere for a long while. Maybe because I'm 67 years old!goose wrote:That made me chuckle. I get it, but I don't get it. I had walmart ask to see my id to buy ammo once. I flashed my chl and asked if that was good enough.
