Scoped AR15 in CMP Service Rifle!

Post by threoh8 »

The CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) will begin allowing some AR15s with scopes, short (16”) barrels, length-adjustable stocks, and other goodies.

NEW CMP Service Rifle and Pistol Rule Changes

One of the complaints about Service Rifle matches has been that many of the modern rifles actually issued to service members are not CMP-legal for competition. For the past several years, the AR15s used in matches had to externally resemble M16A2 or –A4 rifles, with iron sights but no weight limit. Heavy barrels (under the handguards), hidden free float tubes, and buttstock cavity weights ruled supreme.

The new rules allow scoped rifles (AR15 only at this point) under 11.5 pounds, with a limit of 4.5X magnification and 34mm or smaller objective lenses.

I hope this means that more people try Service Rifle matches. It's not perfect, but it's a good way to learn your rifle and develop skills.

I’d expect NRA to follow suit, as they try to sync most of their Service Rifle rules to DCM.

Oh, and Service Pistols can have dust-cover rails now.
The sooner I get behind, the more time I have to catch up.
