Colt 1991a1 Question
My mom just bought a Colt 1991a1 1911, it is a 5+1. My question is will a 7+1 fit in that pistol? Or any other mag?
Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
Is it the compact (officer model)?

Sometimes I really wish a lawyer would chime in and clear things up. Do we have any lawyers on this forum?

Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
I have a Colt 1991a1 and standard magazines fit my model fine. I can insert any wilson or chip mccormick magazine of any size. Of course, the 6 round magazine fits flush and the 7 and 8 round magazines stick out, but the magazines feed and function fine. I am not familiar with a 5 round magazine so maybe your pistol is different.

That's a government-size pistol and should take full size 7 or 8 round mags. Who told you it only holds 5 + 1?gguess66 wrote:LSUTiger wrote:Is it the compact (officer model)?

Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
Something is definitely wrong here. This is the Colt page for the 1991: http://www.colt.com/Catalog/Pistols/199 ... eries.aspx
It says all the 9mm & .38 Super guns have a magazine capacity of 9 rounds. The .45 pistols have a 7 round capacity.

Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
It is possible that the magazine spring is too stiff (or long ?) for 7 rounds. But a 7 or 8 round magazine will fit in even an officer's compact model. In that case the magazine will protrude from the bottom of the magazine well. There is no reason not to get some 7 round magazines. BTW, I generally load up a new magazine and let it sit for a few days to set the spring.

Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
Ok I think I figured it out. The guy at the store said 5, but as look around the 7 mags have five wholes to see the rounds and that is what the guy was looking at...I think he was new. But I do think it is a seven round capacity.gguess66 wrote:I saw that as well...she purchased it at K-5 arms exchange.Pawpaw wrote:Something is definitely wrong here. Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
Not uncommon for the magazine not to have witness holes for the first couple of rounds. No clear reason to exclude that I can see.

Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
Many magazines have their capacity stamped on the side of the mag itself.
Re: Colt 1991a1 Question
Yup, 5 witness holes are common. But if you are concerned about capacity you can see if you can find one of these:
