Chewiest toughest meat I have ever had was in Nactochoches La. @ an upscale restaurant . Could have been an a anomaly , as it's the first and last time I have ordered Gator.

Gator is a tough 'meat' to get right - it can be amazing but if cooked wrong its chewy and fishy tasting.

One of the gators I caught was that size. A true dinosaur! Unbelievably strong! The skull you see below is his.

As a kid living Ft.Lauderdale, Fla, our neighbor was a drag line operator.

Every now and again he'd accidentally drop his bucket on a gator and not wanting it to go to waste, would harvest the tail.

He would bring us a nice chunk of it with the skin and scutes still attached.

My Dad would skin it, slice it up like pork chops and pan fry it.

Man oh man, it was good.

To me, it tasted like pork chops.
