Hmmm. The photo in my CHL is exactly the same used on my DL.

It probably has more to do with the upgraded requirements for DLs. I forget the name of the law, but if a state doesn't comply, those DL holders won't be able to use them for TSA ID purposes.

Yes, you are correct. It's called REAL ID, which requires enhanced features for security.

Had just posted about that in another thread here a couple of days ago. I checked on it since then as well and with TSA the issue is ONLY because the CHL hasn't been evaluated for REAL ID requirements. The picture is identical to your DL because it is the same photo, taken from the DPS database. And also consider that you send a passport photo in with your application. Perhaps it hasn't always been that way but it has been for at least awhile.

You have me interested. What is untrue? I know I sent my picture in and my DL and CHL have different pictures.

Not sure when you got yours, but that is NO longer true. Meaning, that if you apply for a resident TX CHL, as of 6/18/2013 they will only use your DL or ID card photo.

For security purposes and processing efficiency, DPS is now utilizing the Texas Driver License or ID Card photo on file for Concealed Handgun Licenses. The CHL-6 (Photo Holder) is only required to be submitted by applicants who hold an out of state Driver License or Identification Card.

As I understand it, your picture will match your DL photo when you renew your CHL (and receive your LTC).

My CHL renewal Jul. 2015 has the original CHL pic supplied and is different than my DL from a 2 year ago renewal - and my CHL is still a CHL not a LTC or whatever.

I renewed my CHL in September of this year and received the new LTC. The new card still has my original picture I submitted 5 years ago.
