Re: Not my best day
I am hoisting a shot of Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon in your honor. For medicinal purposes of course. I needed to recover my composure.

I must admit that I have never heard of anyone trying this "roping of a deer."
I have to question whether this is a true story or not.
If it is indeed, I must then ask, what the heck were you thinking?

With all due respect to the OP, I first read this story 30 or 40 years ago in some hunting magazine.tomtexan wrote:I must admit that I have never heard of anyone trying this "roping of a deer."

Me too,but I still laugh every time I read it.

It's a great story, it's even better if you think it happened to someone you know. I first read this story about 5 years ago and almost died laughing.Pawpaw wrote:jocat54 wrote:Pawpaw wrote:With all due respect to the OP, I first read this story 30 or 40 years ago in some hunting magazine.tomtexan wrote:I must admit that I have never heard of anyone trying this "roping of a deer."

I remember when I was about 10 years old helping my dad with a somewhat rowdy mare. We had her in a chute and I wanted to have a good grip on her lead and had instinctively wrapped it around my wrists. My dad immediately chastised me saying "if she really decides she is leaving, you don't honestly think you are going to stop her do you? Never tie yourself to something that you may need to let go of in a hurry." He paused and then quipped "that ain't just true for horses, boy." Wise words.
Great story. I enjoyed it.

Yup. That is one way to see the power of deer. I once saw it when someone I know set a hog trap and caught a buck in it. Very horrible but the deer was so strong. There is so much power when the deer would freak a bang against the cage. Funny story but your lucky to be alive. I was laughing while reading but thinking how powerful that buck was I saw, you are real lucky.
The deer biting you had me in tears. I once had some guys (that were not the brightest) over helping on the bosses property and we saw some bucks. I told the guy jokingly, "hey, see if you can run up to it and catch it.", he said, "No. It might bite me." I thought it was hilarious when he said that because I didnt know they would bite. Now I know. Mess with a buck, you might get bit.

I have know idea if it's a true story or not, but it's a lot more fun to read when you think it's true. I hope that everyone enjoyed the story and please feel free to share it with good folks that need a laugh.
