Irregular Circumstances

Post by Jgadsby »

Hey all,

So, about five and half years ago I went through a class, got my CHL in hand, all was well. Since then I went through a name change, and after talking to the folks at DPS, all I needed was a copy of license with correct name and such. I also retired from the military, so DD214 needed to go as well. I printed out all the forms, had them notarized, etc and mailed them 22 Oct. A couple days later, the check is cleared, but there has been no status updates. The website still wants me to full out an application for renewal. Tried calling for status, the prompt said they were too busy to take calls, send an email instead and hung up on me. Emailed a week ago and still not even a reply. Anyone have any insights for me. Feeling like time is not on my side. Want my CHL back... thanks all!

Call back at another time that same day(15-20) minutes later. Especially during lunch, the message will say they are too busy due to high call volume. I called yesterday, and I got the busy message twice, I call back 30 minutes later, I was in hold for about 10 minutes, and a very nice rep was able to answer. Just keep calling. 7am-7pm mon-fri.
As far as email, forget it, they will not answer those, at least to my experience they haven't. :txflag:

Thanks for the reply. Silver lining to this cloud is the link for the renewal application is gone, maybe that means I don't need to do it anymore and they have my paperwork. Fingers crossed :-)

Well, I did get ahold of them this morning... it is in the background check portion. The part that makes me most nervous... I am a disabled veteran with more issues than I care to elaborate on and I can almost feel them denying me my CHL... only time, who knows how much time, will tell how it works out for me.

As of today, 30 Nov 2015, the renewal has been accepted and sent over for printing. She says 2-3 weeks wait time.

10/26- Renewal and accompanying documentation received at DPS
11/23- Awaiting background check
11/30- Awaiting Printing

Getting closer!

Well I see you are into the 'printing' status. Well past the point of your background check kicking you out. Thank-you for your service. VA can be a little slow and less than helpful, but I hope you are getting their help as needed. Thankfully my exit from SE Asia was without issue.
