Oh No ! Handguns allowed in San Antonio City Hall
WOAI TV 4 news in San Antonio this morning had a report on how the City Hall Building in
San Antonio is indeed following the Sept 1 state law that allows CHL's / LTC'ers to bring their handguns into government buildings (except when a meeting is in progress). They mentioned that public meetings are held in a building across the street and no carry is allowed there when a meeting is in progress.
TV lady said only a police officer has the authority to ask someone if they have a license.
They showed a 50 round short barrel scary looking thing at a gun store that was considered to be a handgun and legal to carry into City Hall.
They said pocket knifes and a can of hairspray would still be illegal to carry in City Hall.
But not to worry, on screen they showed a list of three safe places where even licensed carriers are not allowed to carry:
Airports
Hospitals
(I forgot this last one, probably just as wrong as most of the rest of the report)

You can carry in hospitals unless they post a 30.06 sign.

I think she's wrong about pocket knives not being allowed in City hall. San Antonio had its own list of knife laws which were more stringent than state law, but if I'm not mistaken the legislature passed a law this past session saying that cities can't do that. In the absence of a state law prohibiting knives in City hall, cities can't prohibit them.

San Antonio is it's own special snowflake, if you don't believe that, just ask them

Re: Oh No ! Handguns allowed in San Antonio City Hall
That's why the new law was passed. There is nothing in state law about not carrying knives into council meetings, only guns. The law was passed to keep cities from improperly passing local laws which are stricter than state law.
