I'm not going to get that intense about retention for OC. I have both a thumbsnap Safariland pancake holster, and a Safariland Model 578 GLS for my primary EDC. My personal problem with these kinds of retention systems is the idea that the more levels you build into it, [a] the more things that can go wrong and/or break, and the slower the draw gets.

If others want to wear them, that's fine. I'm not saying not to. They aren't horrible or evil or anything, bu't they aren't for me. And none of my concealment holsters have anything at all like this, other than a good positive fit which retains the gun. At some point, we have to be responsible for our own perimeter security, at all times, wherever we go - and that means not ever letting someone get in a position where they can even try to snatch your gun.

I have found no authoritative, industry standard definition of "retention levels" and the topic is not described in Texas statutes. Personally, my preferred OWB holsters for carrying openly will have at least a strap to hold the pistol in. This is primarily to keep the pistol in place as I run across rough terrain chasing my rockets. Y'all do want you want.

Just remember, the start date for Open Carry is 1/1/16.
