Wow, I'm not nuts! Or everyone here is
I usually carry while at home too, first reason (and the one I easily sold to the wife) being that it's safer on me than anywhere else. I trust my 7 year old boy, but when he has friends over, I don't take any chances and it is DEFINITELY on me.
You can have all the locks you want, but kicking in a door will open it, no matter the lock. Glass is breakable too! All locking does is increase the noise made during breakin and make it all more expensive to repair. Either way they're going to be at your face before you even have a chance to digest what is happening. If you're in the zone of the house that they broke into, you won't even get to move 5 feet from where you're standing before they are to you. If you're sitting in the front room and they break through the front door, you might as well stay seated and hope they have a heart. Remember, they're on adrenaline, with a plan and a gun already in their hand. You were relaxed, now you're just trying to figure out what's going on. You are about 5 seconds behind them if you're lucky. Where's your gun?
My recliner is facing the front door. If someone just kicks it in, they have a straight aim at me - advantage to BG. Likewise though, if I'm carrying while sitting there, I know where to aim before they know where to aim - advantage back to me.
Now sleeping with a gun...........nope. Wife would probably leave me. I'm relying on the outside German Shepherd and the alarm system to buy me time in a middle of the night breakin.
