1911 Issue Help

Ok I took my new 1911 out for the first time today. Its a Springfield Range Officer Compact 9mm.

The issue I am having are multiple failure to ejects. Its not stovepiping or hanging up. Its like its not even attempting to eject. Slide doesnt cycle. When you manually rack the slide the empty case falls out. This is happening with both factory mags and Wislon Combat mags.

Anyone know where to start diagnosing?

Check for resistance between the hammer and the firing pin retainer. I had the opposite problem with a 1911, where the slide opened too soon. I replaced the firing pin retainer with one that was squared off instead of radiused. There is a lot of initial resistance in the hammer at the start of the cycle.

Thank you for the responses. To answer your questions.
I really dont think its a grip issue. Ive never had a limp wristing issue. I was a pretty successful IDPA shooter and have taken classes from Master Level shooters. However I wont completely rule that out.

Also yes I am sure its 9X19 mm. Winchester White Box 115gr. Have shoot many thousands of rounds of it. I did find 2 completely defective rounds in this batch however.

I would be less perplexed if the slide was making an attempt to cycle and just falling short.

I have the same firearm. While not as bad as a Kimber, it did take about 100 rounds to break in and loosen up. If you are used to striker fired polymer pistols, as I was, it did seem like I was seeing an excessive amount of issues. The number of failures does taper off with usage, at least in my experience. I did lose the fiber optic front sight but they give you spares. YMMV I reckon.

Frankly, I would try some different ammo especially if you're finding the same issue with different brand magazines.
I've found WWB 115gr a little underpowered. I'd suggest Federal American Eagle & maybe 124gr rather than 115gr.

I think Ill try some better ammo and just try to get a 100 or so rounds through it and see if that helps.

Go with some hotter and heavier ammo. 9mm factory loads can be too wimpy to cycle a 1911 slide - especially on a new gun or with new springs. I have found 128 grain Blazer Brass to be good ammo. OTOH, 115 PMC seems to be the weakest 9mm that I have tried to use. 115gr American Eagle was also on the light side. Once you run 300 or so rounds through your pistol it should be able to run the lighter stuff.

Again, YMMV. I have found at least two duds in every box of Winchester White Box, and it seems to be dirtier than PMC or my favorite, IWI.
OTOH, I have had zero problems with PMC.
