Dang, that was you? I was on my way to Kempner and saw the aftermath. There was already some people rendering aid, and the Sheriff was just pulling up. I'm glad to know that you made it out ok.

E.Marquez, I'm so glad you survived. Thanks for the report and for making it through with "only" some broken ribs and abrasions.

Glad you're OK..To high-side at that speed is one heck of an accident.

I ground a flat spot in a helmet like that once. Was wearing full racing leathers at the time. Got some bumps and bruises, but nothing too serious. But I do remember my head hitting the ground so hard and clearly thinking "My God!" as my head bounced off the pavement without my ever losing consciousness or suffering a headache. The helmet looked like heck though. Had the left rear wheel of a car run over my head once too in a helmet, but I never felt that one because I was already out from hitting the ground head first. Again, all damage restricted to the helmet and I was OK.

............At least that's what they tell me.

E.Marquez, did you figure out yet what caused the high side?

Glad you survived.

I did notice the damage to your motorcyle helmet. Imagine the damage to your skull had you not been wearing it.

I have motorcycle buddies who go ballistic when I tell them they need to wear helmets. I will show them your very excellent photographs.

Glad you are relitively okay. Could have been a whole lot worse as you know.

As a rider myself, I have learned to keep my head on a swival and as in carrying a weapon, be aware of my surroundings and even then there is always that chance.

I also carry on my bike and have since I got my CHL. Any injuries caused by it would be the least of my worries.

So glad you (and your gun) are ok; sorry about the bike. I was out riding on the same day. Your post and pics has me reconsidering my choice of helmet, as I use a half helmet w/retractable face shield rather than a full face. hmmmm.
Get better soon!

Please do.... Full face helmets have saved my off road, track and now street many times now.
In class I have a half helmet and full face helmet face shield I use as training aids.
Both belonged to a student of mine...
He wore the half helmet on Sat and Sun during class, we spoke on several occasions.. He Decided by the end of class to buy a full face.
Young Soldier, went to the PX, bought him a Bell full face. Next day, monday going to PT, was cut off on Ft Hood St, went down. Face shield from his new helmet has road rash.. across the face of it. :tiphat:

I used to be in sales at the Indian dealership in Harker Heights, and I've heard every excuse under the sun as to why people don't want to wear full face helmets. It's too hot, I can't see as good, I can't hear as good, I can't smoke my cigarette, it looks dumb, or (my favorite) I just gotta be free. That last one is for those who choose to wear no helmet at all.

I will say that, by my observation, most sport bike riders tend to wear a full face, while cruiser riders lean more to the half or no helmet side.

I've been down a couple of times myself, and I'm glad I've always been a full face guy. ATTGAT actually. As a matter of fact, my knife and gun both have a little road rash too.
