gift for my dad

Post by moodyamber »

So me and my dad were sitting on the back porch talking and he brought up the subject that there was a certain gun he almost bought a few weeks earlier.Well, that gun is now sitting in lay-away after special ordering it for him for his big 50 birthday. Its a Henry Big Boy .45 rifle w/an octagon and blued barrel.

So, did I do good?

I was so nervous trying to think of what he'd like it to look like.Would he want a round or octagon barrel?Would he want stainless finish or blued? eek! I love my dad but hes sparse with words. All he said was the make and model and I had to fill in the rest when I ordered it. :???:

So would you have gone for the stainless finish or blue? octagon or round barrel?

I'm going to be so nervous until he gets it in Nov!!!

Does the Big Boy come in a round-barrel model? Even if it does, I couldn't imagine getting anything but the octagonal barrel...that's just a little piece of history I'd think anyone owning that rifle would want.

So, yep: if he was thinking of a Henry Big Boy, I'm awfully sure the blued, octagonal barrel is just what he had in mind.

And if it turns out he really doesn't like it, I can "store" it for him at absolutely no charge.

You nailed that one on the head! Imagine the look on his face when he opens it! Sweet piece, too--I've got a fascination for large caliber lever actions. Bought my brother a Henry .22 brass w/octagon barrel when he came to visit me once and said he liked it.
I found the Lord again--although he never lost me!

I think a caliber representing age is appropriate. And since I'll be 45 on my next birthday....

Oh wow, that is COOL!!!!! I got my Dad a Winchester Trapper .45 Colt for Christmas a few years ago after he said he really enjoyed shooting mine. He totes it around the farm with him all the time. :fire :fire

buying Dad a gun for the 5-0 is a really great idea. The Henry is a good one too. I bought my son (31 years old) and partly for my grandson, a Henry Golden Boy 22 cal for his birthday last week. They were stoked as I'm sure your Dad will be also.

My birthday was last week too, but no new guns for me
