A judicial police source said: 'Following questioning, the man made it clear that he had the guns with him for personal protection. The enquiry is ongoing, but it is not a terrorist enquiry.

So the police don't think it could be a possible terrorist attack because the guy they arrested said the guns were for personal protection?

???? Also why would your wife/girlfriend/co-conspirator run away if they were just personal protection guns?? I'm beginning to see part of the problem if you say your not a terrorist they take you at your word. "No officer I was just borrowing all this jewelry for my own personal use, I was going to bring it back after the party" I am not a thief!!

Yeah, the French incentives are little more mixed than say the German incentives. Still, the Paris attacks could create more incentive for a cover-up because repeated attacks are going to sow increasingly greater domestic discord, but I don't know enough about the political landscape in France to guess on which side they're more likely to fall.

This is starting to remind me of all of those science fiction movies where the earth is going to be invaded by martians, have a deadly virus outbreak or get hit by an asteroid. Government officials cover it up because they don't want to tell the public the truth because it might cause wide spread panic. And then when the disaster finally occurs there is wide spread panic.
