I'm not saying anyone would do this but you never know.

The law says he can't enter the building with a gun. However, the chances of prosecution or even arrest is slim to none in my opinion.
IANAL, but I believe that even if he is arrested he has a defense of necessity.
If I were in that situation - I don't think I could be charged with unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon. If I feel the need to charge a dirtbag to end the problem, I can pretty much guarantee you that it won't be concealed any longer.

Exactly! The parents of the kids that were present at the place of shooting/and or saved from being shot and the media would eat it alive that the 'hero' was charged.

But if I was on campus, had a illegally concealed handgun, and needed to use it to defend my life or the life of professors/classmates......I would not hesitate and I would assume full responsibility and expect charges to be filled against me. But I wouldn't be surprised if nothing came of it........

Just how I feel.....I await the day when we will be buying backpacks to not only hold our books and laptop, but a built-in holster perhaps.......

There is a legal concept called the doctrine of competing harms which would apply. It basically says that it is ok to break a law, if more harm would be done by following the law.

Not something that you want to have to trust a jury to decide on in most situations.... but in my book, the situation you described is one where it fits perfectly.

If someone is executing people and you break the law by crossing an invisible line that says carrying your gun is no longer legal in order to stop them - it seems pretty clear which action takes priority.

I believe anyone with a conscience would go in to stop it. But we all know that sometime justice is blind to the wrong things. I don't believe in Texas any jury would convict you. We all know there are some DA's out there that would try to prosecute you. And I would bet there are more lawyers out there that would defend you for free just for the notoriety. But most of us that have CHL's probably would never give any of that a thought while going in.

Gun busters have been up in the SBC....err, Jones AT&T parking lot for a while. I don't recall there being any 30.06 at the USA. The stupid one near Indiana and UMC I think got backed over by a bulldozer before they took it down.

Just days after the Virgina Tech shooting, there were petitions all over campus for concealed carry on campus. I would say a minimum of 5 different ones were going and had a long list of names. I would agree that most those names really had no idea the TRUE meaning of what concealed carry on campus actually meant. Some students just signed to be in support and some signed cause their friends did.

But the voice was heard.

All the names were turned it....and we had a meeting with the DFW regent who actually recently died. So not sure where that went.....but it will be pursued again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

Here is a great site to help schools get information:

Sounds like your son is still a student....have him get on a website called Facebook.com. There is a group somewhere specifically for Concealed Carry on the TTU campus. I believe its called 'Guns Up!, Guns Concealed' or something along those lines.
The 30.06 signs at the main entrance, Boston, Elgin, Flint, Indiana streets, and on the north entrance were intact as of last Tuesday. Some of the 30.06 signage has been moved to accommodate the large amount of construction on campus. The "ghostbusters" have been installed this week, replacing the remaining 30.06s. It's a beautiful sight.

When the students and the community work with a good, common-sense chancellor, good things can happen. I hope the dominoes fall all over the state on this issue.

Yes.

"Or should he just stay out of it?"

That is a moral question only the student with the gun can answer.

Well!!!!!....we documented those coming down months ago - I would guess before Spring Break. I guess they got put back up for some reason.....but I am glad to see them coming back down.

A group of us went around campus and checked each sign and the only one that was left was the one near UMC.

My roommate actually works for the athletic dept and they took down the 30.06s when the parking lot was redone for the City Bank Center or whatever its called now. They never went back up.....the ghostbusters did and they even stuck one inside the football stadium at the student gate.
