Converting a closet to a gun storage area

Several years ago we did some remodeling shortly after some tornadoes passed close to the house. This plus all of the mischief going around coupled with the fact I was doing a lot of out of town work, my wife wanted to put in a safe room. We had the contractor make our master closet into this safe room by pouring all walls and ceiling with 6" of reinforced concrete. We then added a steel door on the inside that normally stays open except when grand kids are there. We installed a decorative wooden door on the outside of the closet so you would never know. In one corner (and growing) is where we keep all of our weapons when we are not at home. Total cost for a 10' x 6' room was $3,100.00. For her piece of mind, well worth it and at the time, because I was remodeling and adding onto that area of the house anyway, it was less expensive than a ground shelter.

I like the concept but the only issue i see is you can have a fully steel "un pickable door" but it does no good if all someone has to do is kick in the drywall and pass thru the studs...

Or drop down through the Sheetrock and insulation from the attic.

Eta: I was talking with a buddy who wanted to get some land in the country and build a 100% secure house... Bulletproof lined walls, solid steel entry doors, lucite windows, all of it.

I told him that I would get on his roof with a chainsaw and be inside his house in under two minutes. You cannot put enough stuff on the ceiling to stop someone who doesn't mind ruining a chainsaw blade and falling 10-12 feet. A ceiling can only hold so much weight for the sturdy stuff that you want to hang on it.

For what you would spend, get a big gun safe and bolt it to the floor in that closet.

Hmmm but you are (very) well-armed in there!

I'd also like a cam or two outside the safe room so I can see what the BG(s) might be doing. But I do want some protection so someone can't easily fire thru sheetrock themselves.

Reinforced walls could also help against other flying debris in a tornado.
