Gun Vice

Post by mdubtx »

Looking for advice on a gun vice or cleaning stand. Grabbed a new Colt LE6920 with the Magpul SL furniture. My first AR but I can already tell this is going to see LOT of range time.

Anyway... Is the "Best Gun Vice" really the best for the money? Or, just grab a Gun Butler and use the plastic blocks (sorry, correct nomenclature is escaping me) to hold the AR open for cleaning?

I do also have an older breech shotgun but it is easily disassembled for cleaning.

Thanks

My wife thinks I have a good gun vice. She thinks I have too many. I have a standard vice and purchased one of those plastic blocks that fits in the magazine slot. You just clamp it into the vice. You can get a nice standard bench vice at Sears,Lowes, or Home Depot. You can make your own out of wood if your handy.

You can get these blocks for handguns also. http://www.amazon.com/NO-M-A-R%C2%AE-Bl ... B00LJDBYFW

Vice (noun) an immoral or evil habit or practice.
Vise (noun) any of various devices, usually having two jaws that may be brought together or separated by means of a screw, lever, or the like, used to hold an object firmly while work is being done on it.

Sorry.....couldn't resist! :rolll
And yes, I do have a gun vice. But I don't have a dedicated gun vise.

Maybe I am too as I do not shoot my toys a lot. They feel bored and it is my fault. Let us save the shooting instruments!

I have the Tipton Gun Vise.

It's okay, but I wish I had gone ahead and bought the Tipton Best Gun Vise

I'll admit I thought the same when I read the title. I was expecting a "racier" topic.

Dagnabbit ;) I wish I were that intentionally punny. No wonder my searches have yielded little more than Joe Biden rants!

Any bonus points for nomenclature???

I do seem to have the vice pretty well covered. Any vise recommendations would certainly be welcomed!

I was hoping for a response from Wild Bill. Guess I got it. LOL

I was just thinking a multi-purpose vice would be better. Also I don't know how someone doing a search for vice would come up with Joe Biden. Unless they spelled vise wrong.

His adVICE would be to adVISE you to buy one to work on that double barreled shotgun between firing those two blasts outside.

I have the Tipton Best Vise and it's okay. I don't have anything else to compare it to, but do find myself simply taking my guns apart and setting the parts on cleaning mats rather than using the vise. I might use it more if I had used cleaning rods instead of snakes. I've also considered getting decent-good regular vise and one of those things I can fit into the vise and then into the magwell of of the guns. However, that would require several different doohickies for the various guns ' magwells.
