The Good Lord Gave Us a Pink One...

Post by anygunanywhere »

A pink bluebonnet!!

Yesterday I was out looking at our wildflower spreads. The Indian Paintbrushes are starting to blossom. I'm excited!

Then something caught my eye. A pink bluebonnet! I called Mrs. Anygun outside to look at the beautiful specimen. These are even more rare than the white ones.

This link has a nice story about the legend of the pink bluebonnet:

"So remember, the next time you see a pink bluebonnet, it's not only a pretty flower, but a symbol for the struggle to survive and a memory of those who died so that Texas could be free."
"When democracy turns to tyranny, the armed citizen still gets to vote." Mike Vanderboegh

"The Smallest Minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities." – Ayn Rand

Years ago when we were living in another house, I planted some bluebonnet seeds my great-uncle had given me around our mailbox. Many of them sprouted and among them was one with pink flowers. When it put out a seed pod, I waited until I could be reasonably sure that the seeds were ready. A week or so before I was going to pick and then dry the seed pod, some ne'er-do-well visited my mailbox planter and relieved me of the entire plant. I was more than a little frustrated. They are a rare and beautiful thing, particularly when found in a sea of blue bluebonnets.
