Optics Planet, -2 stars!

Post by Beiruty »

This is my last order from Optics Planet. I ordered a Hornady Bullet Feeder for AP press 03/14. It came in shrink wrap and when I opened the box and inspected the feeder it was missing main gear parts. So, it was dead on arrival. Optics Planet now offers return and free shipping back with an online RMA, but the catch is that it would take 10-business days to procees the return.
I shipped back the DOA item and Optics Planet Received it on 03/23 as of today 04/01, I still did not get the shipping notification of the replacement.

Bye OpticsPlante! Back to Amazon prime.

I keep saying the same thing about Palmetto State Armory, it's the last time I order anything from them!

Products are solid, prices are great, shipping speed is hit or miss, customer service usually terrible.

I just made an FFL required purchase, my FFL was listed but couldn't select my FFL from the drop down list, it kept prompting me to make a selection.

I call PSA, they said place the order with no FFL (the I cant find my FFL selection) and then tell FFL to send info. I placed order, get order confirmation and then called back and asked them to send to FFL listed on the website. Again, they told me to have FFL send info. The next day I get an email telling me to have FFL contact them.

I have made orders with PSA and used same FFL before so I know they should have his info. I contact FFL and he says they already have his info. I called PSA back and this time got a different customer service rep. I explained the situation and she looked up the FFL, found his info and my order was shipped the next day. Third time was a charm.

Why couldn't they have done that the first time I called? And this is the second time I order something and my FFL can't be selected although he's in the selection list. I could select everyone else but him.

I wonder what I will order next from them? :cryin

There is a book called "The Discipline of Market Leaders" that talks about market leaders focusing on what they do best and not trying to be all things to all people. It uses the example of Wal-Mart focusing on low cost / low prices through efficient distribution channels, sheer buying power, and a low cost structure, and claims that they consciously avoid focusing on good customer service. I'm not sure I buy that example given that I personally have received decent customer service at Wallly World's, but the concept is interesting.

I say this as I read the above post about PSA and take note that they are selling stripped AR lowers for $69....

Yeah I have found that most of the on-line marketers don't seem to understand, that they are not the only game in town, and they believe that if they carry the largest stock of products that customer service is not critical. I am much more likely to spend a few extra bucks to get better service than I am to try and save it to be treated like my business is not important. JMHO

There are usually opportunities to spend a few extra bucks in exchange for better customer service. There are also enough people who only buy on cost to keep the lowest price / lowest service operations in business.

The trick is finding that Goldilocks outfit that is "just right" and has the exact level of increased cost / increased service that you find ideal.

I have nothing but good experience with sport optics in lousiana. I even visited their store once and they have quite the selection. I have heard plenty of issues with optics planet so i never ordered from there.

Maybe that should be a category for listing their business "The Goldilocks Rating" :smilelol5:

You could give it one, two or three bears when you give feedback. :tiphat:

I quit doing business with Optics Planet some time ago. On 3 different occasions, I ordered from them only to have items (that their website said were in stock) placed on backorder, only to find they had an active eBay listing for the same item. :mad5

The same thing happened to me with a holster order from Optics Planet. Said it was in stock so I ordered, waited, waited and go to check the status of my order and low and behold... it's on backorder. No email, no phone call nothing. If I hadn't gone in to check I wouldn't have known. I have noticed that they fill a lot of products for Amazon and wonder if that obligation hijacks their inventory due to contractual obligations.
On the following order to Galls for the same order I tried to place with Optics Planet, the holster didn't actually ship until a week and a half after they said it did and then it arrived postage due. I asked them for reimbursement, providing proof that I paid to get the package from USPS and haven't heard anything from them. It's been a month.
I am beginning to wonder if Amazon is the only company out there that doesn't have a shipping department that is a dumpster fire. Galls and Optics Planet have lost my business.
