Captain America civil war. No spoilers here.

Post by loscar141 »

So today I went to see civil war. I am not going to give away the movie, but I did want to discuss something that was said in the movie.

In one scene captain America is describing some of the enemies, too the rest of the team. The one thing that bugs me is he say the enemies are armed with AR15's,
When clearly they are using automatic weapons. Maybe M4's or M16's.

Why do you think that is? Did the movie make a mistake?
Is Hollywood trying to associate the AR15 with bad guys?

yeah it was a little weird, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the fim. M-16 doesn't sound malicious enough, like AK-47 does. If you think about the origins of Crossbones and his crew then it makes sense that they would work with AR-15s rather than AK-47s

On second thought they should have said M-4s, would have been more acurrate

It's probably just what you think it is. That they are trying to equate bad things with the AR-15. Or it could just be the familiarity with the term and that many people don't know what at M4 is, but sure have heard about the AR.

I heard that he is not called Captain America either, just Cap or something like that. Can't say American in a positive way.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

He was often called Cap in the comic books also. Just a nickname.

OK just playing the hypothetical here, but if someone was to illegally modify an AR-15 so that it fired in full auto mode, would it still be an AR-15, or would it automatically become an M-16 / M-4?

Maybe the BG's modified their AR's to fire in full auto mode. They are clearly willing to do illegal things, after all.

The original AR15 design had select fire capability. The designation "M16", and later "M4", are the military designation for an AR15 based rifle. Civilian sales of semi auto only rifles didn't start until after military development.

Maybe something to think about, possibly not an unintentional reference to AR 15s and showing full auto.

The wife and I watched the movie tonight. Pretty decent action hero movie, good special effect, etc. I caught the mention of "A-15", and I'd wager it was just pure ignorance on the part of the movie folks. Actually, I'm more amazed they didn't call them "AK-47s". Just like every semi-auto handgun is a "Glock".

Lol that's true. I like watching TV shows and hearing a Glock pistol be cocked like it has a hammer always make me chuckle.

But regardless if it's ignorance or deliberate. It get everyone thinking that an AR15 can shoot automatically, and than when antigun politicians talk about assault weapons, everyone is thinking AR15 or other semiautomatic weapons should be included

I honestly I don't think these movies have an anti gun agenda. Black widow, hawkeye, winter soldier, falcon and more all USE GUNS. Captain America used a 1911 in his first movie.

To back up my claim: In the Ant Man movie the ants stopped a Glock from firing by blocking the HAMMER. Yup the Glock had an exposed Hammer. So I will say it's just ignorance.

Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence. In this case, however, it could be both.
