Happy Memorial Day!

Post by Vol Texan »

To all those who have served, we owe our gratitude. Many of us will be thanked today. But today is not our day - ours comes early in November. Today is the day to remember those that we've lost - those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedoms.

We're about to leave the house here in a few minutes...going up to the National Cemetery on the north side of Houston. Since we moved back to the US, it has been our annual tradition to take my daughter up there to meet some vets and place some flags on graves of fallen soldiers.

So while we're all out at our barbecues, or on our boats, or doing whatever it is that we do on this long weekend, please take a moment to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms.

Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

Amen.

While we will barbecue today, it is not a day of barbecue. While we will gather with friends and family to celebrate, it is not a day of celebration. What we will do this day is not wrong, but this is a day of remembrance, a day of reflection, a day to remind ourselves of those who went to war not to die, but were willing to do so for their countrymen. It's a day to honor not only those who have paid the ultimate price on earth, but also their loved ones who must relive their loss every birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and, yes, Memorial Day.

I pray that every man and woman that dons the uniform in service to Americans does so with the love of Christ in their heart, so that their death on the battlefield, should it come, will be the first day of an eternity of joy and peace, rather than last "good" day they will ever experience.

Chas.
