A really good discussion over at PDO...

I remember commenting that I thought the taking down of CHL information was wrong...There was no assurance of information security, who would see it or use it, and if the info was retained and by whom...
Much less a reason to do it in the first place...
Same thing with the City of Houston's 611 Walker, downtown facility, doing the same thing...
Anybody else want to take a hack at this???

The Texas CHL office number: 1-800-224-5744 ( option No. 8 ) will direct you to legal...
I call to see if they knew anything about this issue...
I got the most run around I have gotten from Austin in a loooong time...I don't think the girl I talked to was a lawyer...Or any authority on the law...Just got a naggin' feeling about that...
I told her I understood that "basically" anyone can call the Austin office and find out if a person like me has a CHL...They are the "only" lawful authority able to release that information...
What my beef is that I do not think whomever is collecting our information at the State Fair is authorized to do so, much less retain, use, divulge that information to anyone...
So if you are not authorized to release the information, you are not authorized to collect it, regardless if it is a Law Enforcement officer in this state...
I certainly do not have a problem informing an L.E.O., because thats part of our law...
I do have a problem with the un-authorized collection of information like this, and not knowing if its legal to do so, much less what they do with it after they get it...
See, I just get on these little rants...And boom...I can't stop...
