Finally, a substantive deterrent to ISIS

Post by treadlightly »

I'm very happy to report Apple is replacing their handgun emoji with a water pistol - http://money.cnn.com/2016/08/01/technol ... tol-emoji/

There is the expected blather about Apple standing up to the NRA, and various anti-gun groups are vying for credit. None of it is true.

iPhones are the favorite of terrorists and libertarians alike because Apple is relatively unwavering about encryption.

That advantage is now being leveraged.

The handgun in the iPhone was ISIS' only weaponized emoji, AND IT'S GOING AWAY!

We're all safe, as soon as the new IOS is released. Unless there's a pop-tart emoji. Kids can gnaw those things into really scary shapes.

And, now that I think about it, I'm not really so keen on Apple's new plan. Kind of makes me want to switch back to an Android. Or a flip phone. Or a nice campfire within a day's walk of a mailbox. Wouldn't need a gun emoji there. I'd have the real thing and I could still stay in touch! :biggrinjester:

lol! Does this mean that if I send "Watch out! I'm coming for you! <gun emoji>" to someone from an iPhone (or presumably a mac running macOS 10.12), it's no longer a threat? Because unless you're the wicked witch of the west (or hillary clinton), getting damp doesn't do much harm to anyone.

Oh man! And to think I nearly updated my iOS this morning! Boy, I really dodged a bullet there.

So, did they leave the knife and the two box truck emojis? Because in light of recent attacks they should probably get rid of those too.

Also, the gun emoji is a revolver. I can't remember any terrorist attacks involving revolvers, but I don't watch the news, so I guess I might have missed them.
I prefer dangerous freedom to safety in chains.

Let's go Brandon.
